Ropati joins Widnes re-build
Widnes have confirmed the signing of Tongan centre Tangi Ropati, following Sheffield’s exit from the play-offs.
Ropati, 25, has spent the last two seasons with the Eagles after impressing boss Mark Aston in the 2008 World Cup.
The New Zealand born back has signed a one-year deal with the Vikings, with an option for a further year.
He said: “I’ve heard a great deal from many people involved in the game, just how professional Widnes are as a club both on and off the field and to be a part of this type of environment is something that I’m genuinely excited about.
“For a club like Widnes to not only show an interest in me, but to actually take me on, is an overwhelming experience and I can’t wait to get started and hopefully repay the faith that they have shown in me.”
Ropati joins Steve Tyrer, Chaz I’Anson and Macgraff Leuluai in moving to the Stobart Stadium since the end of the Championship season.
Head Coach Paul Cullen said: “Tangi is a powerful, dynamic and skillful centre who will have a massive impact in our threequarter line. He ticks all our on and off-field boxes, and we are delighted with his capture.
“Our rebuild continues.”
