Saints chase double over Wolves

St Helens head to Warrington on Friday aiming to complete a league double over the Wolves.

Saints recorded a 31-6 victory back in March, but they have picked up just two wins from six games since then to remain in the bottom half of the Super League table.

“It is always a tough game against Warrington,” interim coach Jamahl Lolesi told the club’s official website. “The physicality of the game is always the same no matter who is playing.

“They are a good team with a great squad, right down to their kids, and they are well coached. It will be a tough assignment for us.

“We will prepare and train the best we can, get the game plan right and go out and execute it the best we can on Friday.

“Everyone is desperate for points especially the sides that aren’t doing as well as the others. We are in that boat and will do our best to try and get them.

“There’s no secret both Saints and Warrington aren’t where they want to be, but at our end we can only worry about ourselves and getting as high as we can.

“We can only concentrate on the next game coming and prepare the best we can.”

While Saints have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, one player who has made an impact is young winger Regan Grace.

The 20-year-old has scored three tries in four games and Lolesi is happy with the progress he’s making.

“Regan is learning every week and training his hardest – he is making sure he improves on the subtleties of the game which he is working on every week,” he told the St Helens Star.

“He is starting to read the game a bit better. We are pleased with the way he is going. Regan is a young kid and quite small so they are going to test his skill level.

“Although he came up with a couple of errors last week, but I was pleased that he did not go into his shell and it didn’t bother him.

“He got back into it, carried the ball well and scored a nice try. He is the type of kid who may make a few boo-boos here and there, but it does not affect him.

“He is quite strong mentally and gets back out there. He has speed to burn, so if you are not quite honest on him and he gets himself into open space it is all over.”
