If Salford Red Devils make the play-offs watch them do some damage
Salford Red Devils are Super League dark horses and could surprise a few teams if they make the play-offs this season.
That’s the verdict of their former captain Adrian Morley who admits he remains a huge fan of his hometown club.
Morley ended his career at Salford, where he spent two seasons in 2014 and 2015 after leaving Warrington. He now combines media and ambassadorial roles with work outside of rugby league in recruitment.
Morley believes the Red Devils are on to a good thing under head coach Paul Rowley. Salford remain in the chase for a play-off place, sitting just behind sixth-placed Hull by two points.
“I think they are going about their business really well,” said Morley on the latest Love Rugby League Podcast.
“Paul Rowley is a very smart coach and there is some quality there at Salford. If they can keep the players fit and do make the play-offs I think they can cause an upset or two.”
Salford Red Devils could be a surprise package
Under Ian Watson Salford were surprise Super League Grand Finalists in 2019 having flirted with relegation the previous season, and also made the Challenge Cup Final in 2020.
Morley sees those achievements as proof of what the club is capable of; and is desperate to see the current side do well at the AJ Bell Stadium.
“I go and watch them quite regularly,” said the former Great Britain and England international.
“My boys love their rugby league and it is their local club.
“I watched them win against Wakefield and it is a tough job to put 70 past anyone. I did say they’d go to Warrington the next week and get the win as well and they did that as well. You can argue Warrington aren’t going so well but you’ve still got to get the win.”
