Salford Red Devils reject transfer request from England international
Salford Red Devils have confirmed that the club has rejected a transfer request from Tyler Dupree’s agent amid speculation around the star’s future.
Dupree, 23, penned a new a three-year extension with the club in December 2022 on a deal until the end of 2025.
The club previously confirmed that it had turned down an offer from an unnamed key player, with Examiner Live recently reporting that Hull KR were interesting in signing the England international.
Director of rugby and operations Ian Blease said in a statement: “I can confirm the club have received a transfer request from the agent of Tyler Dupree today.
“We have strongly refused the request, with the player still a big part of our plans going forward.
“As a club, we are committed to retaining our players and after a recent extension, Tyler is contracted until the end of 2025.”
The ex-Leeds youngster joined Salford from Widnes midway through last season on an initial deal until the end of 2023, having also previously featured for Oldham.
He has impressed so far in the top flight and earned his first England cap under Shaun Wane during the mid-season international fixture with France in Warrington, featuring from the bench.
Salford turn to fundraising campaign
The AJ Bell Stadium side has recently turned to fundraising in a bid to raise revenue with their ‘Reds Rise Together’ campaign.
Earlier this month, Salford confirmed that £150,000 had been raised through the campaign, with almost 650 people pledging their support of the community share offer in a bid to make Salford the first elite rugby league club to become wholly community owned.
In previous years, Salford have been forced to sell the likes of Jackson Hastings and Ben Murdoch-Masila to keep afloat.
They made a real signal of intent in the off-season by tying down Man of Steel Brodie Croft to a new seven-year deal, designed to ward off interest from at home and overseas.
The new campaign is in hope to retain their star players and keep the squad moving forward under Paul Rowley, with prop forward Dupree included, although managing director Paul King admitted that selling players may have to be an option once more.
King previously explained: “A reflection of the progress we have made as a club in recent years is our hugely talented squad who are attracting offers from other clubs across the world, and who would potentially command significant transfer fees.
“But one of the reasons we are doing this now is to ensure we can keep our playing squad together and compete at the higher end of the competition – it just feels counter-productive to move on members of the group right now so we will avoid doing so for as long as we can.
“That being said, it may be something we must consider sooner rather than later if we do not get back on track in the campaign.
“To those who have already pledged and are now making history with us, firstly thank you, and secondly, help us now go further by speaking to your friends and family about it.
“Get them involved right away, or get them along to the event on the 23rd to learn more – this is such a special moment, not only for the club and the game, but for our local community too.”
