Sam Wood commits future to Hull KR

Hull KR centre Sam Wood has committed his future to the club by signing a one-year contract extension for the 2023 season.

The 24-year-old joined the Robins ahead of this season from fellow Super League club Huddersfield.

Wood, who was out of contract at the end of this year, has scored 27 tries in 109 career appearances since making his first team debut for Huddersfield in 2016.

Wood said: “It’s great that the club have made the decision to extend the deal early.

” I’m really grateful that they’re showing some faith in me for next year. I can’t wait to crack on once I’m back from injury and help the boys.

“After a couple of games, I really found my feet and was probably playing some of the best rugby I’ve played.”

Wood is currently sidelined with a dislocated patella. He is aiming to return to action in June.

The Dewsbury-born centre says he is loving life in East Yorkshire.

He said: “The fans have been absolutely fantastic. You run out at a derby to ten thousand fans and you can feel the ground shaking! It’s unlike anything I’ve experienced.

“I’m loving my time over here and I can’t wait to be here next year too. It’s been made seamless by the club and an easy transition.”

Wood has become a first team regular in Tony Smith’s side this season. He has played in 10 of 12 of their games in Super League so far in 2022.

Hull KR have lost three from four games since Smith made his surprise announcement that he will leave the club at the end of the season.

The Robins will aim to return to winning ways on Saturday lunchtime when they host Catalans Dragons at Craven Park, live on Channel 4.
