South Wales Scorpions are pleased to announce that they have signed second-row forward Tom Morgan from Swansea rugby union club for the 2012 season.

The 22-year old has been a regular in the Swansea side for the past season and a half and has put in some outstanding performances, helping the All Whites to fifth in the Premiership and to the semi-finals of the Cup in his first season.

A Bridgend local, he was brought up through the famous Bridgend Athletic RFC youth development system, made his first team there in 2009-10 making an immediate impact to win their Player of the Year award.

Scorpions coach Dave Clark said: “We’re delighted to welcome Tom into the Scorpions. He has a tremendous reputation in local rugby union so we’re sure that he’s going to do well for us. The experience he’s had already in high level rugby union in Wales will ensure that he offers a lot. He’s got a good frame on him and lots of ambition to go far.”

Morgan began training with the Scorpions this week and he is enjoying the experience.

“It’s a great opportunity for me,” he said. “It’s a fresh start and something new. I’ll either play at centre or second row for the Scorpions so I’m looking forward to varying my game. I’m enjoying training so far and I can’t wait for the season to start next year.”

The Scorpions would also like to announce that their two Super League stars from last year, Dalton Grant and Joe Burke, have both signed new contracts for the 2012 season.

“We’re really pleased that Dalton and Joe are with us again in 2012,” said Clark. “I know that they had first class campaigns for the Scorpions last year and they also gained experience by playing for Crusaders in the Super League too. They are both Wales stars of the future and 2012 will be a big season for both of them as we go for promotion.”
