Sharp happy ahead of tough London trip
Featherstone boss Jon Sharp believes Wednesday’s 36-2 victory over Swinton was the ideal preparation for this weekend’s trip to the capital.
Featherstone travel to face London Broncos on Sunday in a game which could prove pivotal for both sides.
Sharp said: “We needed the win – we know how tight the top four is at the moment and everyone seems to be in good form.
“We did a lot of things right, but the way in which we defended has to be admired.
“I thought, defensively, we were outstanding, especially against a great attacking team like Swinton and I was delighted that we did not concede a try.
Jack Ormondroyd, Jordan Baldwinson and Josh Walters all appeared on dual-registration terms for the Rovers, while Andy Bostock and Chris Ulugia returned from injury.
“Josh was outstanding, he did everything asked of him, which meant he was able to help the other forwards out,” added Sharp.
“Jordan carried the ball extremely well and Jack was hard to deal with. Andy and Chris got through some much-needed minutes and performed admirably.
“It was important that we got back on track with regards to the league campaign.
“We want to play with momentum and also a winning attitude, which will help us when we come up against London on Sunday.”
Swinton head coach John Duffy applauded Rovers’ performance against his side, insisting the Lions have faced no better opponent in 2017.
“I have said all along that Featherstone are the best team we have played against all year – and they showed that,” said Duffy.
“They have some quality players in their ranks and are a solid team. All credit to Featherstone, they defended like their lives depended on it and scored some nice tries.
“They obviously want to get something out of this season and I wish them the very best of luck with their hopes.
“Featherstone are a hugely-talented team. They are hard to break down and are very well equipped.
“Their work rate for one another is fantastic and they showed that in beating us.”
