Widnes can confirm that Shaun Briscoe has left the club with immediate effect by mutual consent.

Briscoe, 30, played only 14 times for the Chemics but he did manage a return of six tries.

Vikings CEO James Rule, commented: “Shaun has had limited playing opportunities this year and we have therefore agreed to an early release from his existing contract. This will enable him to pursue other options that will provide him with more regular playing opportunities.

“We thank Shaun for his contribution to the Vikings and wish him the best of luck in his future career.”

Briscoe himself said, “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Widnes fans for the support they’ve shown me in my 18 months at the club.

“It’s been a frustrating time with injuries and not playing as much as I would like to have, but I’d like to wish the boys and the club the very best for the future.”
