Shaun Wane confident Warrington will ‘turn a corner’ following England win

England head coach Shaun Wane believes Warrington will ‘turn a corner’ after several Wolves players featured in the win over the Combined Nations All Stars.

England recorded their first win over the All Stars with an 18-4 scoreline at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday. Warrington half-back George Williams crossed for one of three tries, with Jake Wardle and John Bateman also scoring.

Mike Cooper also started in the pack, while Matty Ashton, Joe Philbin and Stefan Ratchford were all a part of England’s preparations but did not feature.

Daryl Clark and Peter Mata’utia represented the All Stars, with a total of seven Warrington players selected in both squads.

England boss Wane believes the international test will give those players a boost of confidence to take back into the club, who are currently on a run of five straight defeats.

Following the clash, Wane said: “Warrington are a very good team and they will fix things.

“Just to get them (players) into a different camp with a different group of players will do them good. Without a shadow of a doubt I think Warrington will turn a corner. They’ve got too many good players.

“George (Williams) has seemed like a different person this week. There’s a lot of pressure on the players here. It is a big club that wants to do things and at the moment it is not going their way but I’m sure it will turnaround.

“Weeks like this for George and people like Mike Cooper, it will do them the world of good to have a bit of a change. I’m sure Warrington will see some different players next week which is good for them and good for Super League.”
