Shaun Wane forced to cancel first England training session of 2022
Shaun Wane has been forced to cancel England’s first training session of the year due to an injury crisis.
The former Wigan boss named his first England training squad of 2022 in preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
However, injuries has forced Wane to cancel the training session which was set to be held at Leeds’ Headingley Stadium.
Daryl Clark left the field during Warrington’s defeat at St Helens. Jack Welsby is being monitored by St Helens following their 28-2 win.
Harry Newman suffered another hamstring injury during Leeds’ clash with Wakefield. The 22-year-old left the field in his return match.
Head coach Richard Agar confirmed it was the same injury that sidelined him up until the clash.
Salford centre Dan Sarginson is expected to miss up to four weeks through injury.
Jake Wardle (Huddersfield) and Niall Evalds (Castleford) have also recently been sidelined with injuries.
Setback for Shaun Wane and England
Media arrangements were put in place but the media was informed on Monday morning that the session has been “cancelled due to the unavailability of a significant number of players following the weekend’s fixtures”.
It is a setback for Wane but the coach has further England training sessions planned for April and May in the build-up to the game against the Combined Nations All Stars at Warrington in June and will also get his group together in July and August ahead of the World Cup.
England are due to play Fiji in a warm-up match at Rochdale on Friday, October 7, eight days before their opening World Cup match against Samoa at St James’ Park, Newcastle.
