Shenton ready to right English wrongs against Kiwis

Castleford centre Michael Shenton would love to be involved with Steve McNamara’s England squad for the forthcoming matches against France and New Zealand.

Shenton was part of the England squad which played in the 2014 Four Nations Down Under, and he would like to help McNamara’s men make up for the disappointment of that tour.

“For me, it would be great to back involved,” he told Love Rugby League.

“Last year was a great experience, to go out to Australia and New Zealand with the team and be part of that group.

“We’ve got a good team now, England, it’s been growing over the years.

“I think Steve McNamara has done a good job of building.

“It’s been a long time since we had a proper Test series against one team.

“It would be great to be involved in it.”

The game against France takes place at Leigh on October 24, a week before the first Test against New Zealand at Hull.

Shenton is anticipating a tough test against the French.

“It’s a full Test match, there’s no messing about,” he said.

England will be taking it fully seriously, and I expect France will as well.

“They’ve not just got players at Catalans now, they’ve got players dotted around Super League, and players with NRL experience.

“They’ve got a pretty experienced team now, and if they’ve got a full squad of players to pick from, then that could be a pretty tough game.”
