Six players have been suspended in the fallout from Sunday’s stormy Super League match between Salford and Leeds.

Referee Robert Hicks sent off two players – Lee Mossop (Salford) and Bodene Thompson (Leeds) – for throwing punches and sin-binned three others during the rearranged fixture at the AJ Bell Stadium, which the Rhinos won 38-12.

Red Devils captain Mossop was given a two-match penalty notice by the Rugby Football League’s match review panel after charging him with a Grade C offence while Thompson was handed a one-match ban for a Grade B offence.

Leeds captain Luke Gale was given two matches for a Grade C punching offence and his team-mate Alex Mellor was banned for one match for making contact with the match official.

Centre Joe Burgess, who was making his home debut, was given one match for a Grade B punching offence and forward Jack Wells was banned for two games for a Grade C dangerous throw.

Brad Dwyer and Tom Briscoe (Leeds) and Salford forward Ryan Lannon all avoided bans after being charged with Grade A offences.
