Smith out of All Stars clash
Cameron Smith has been ruled out of the NRL All Stars match on February 4 after suffering an injury in pre-season training.
Coach Wayne Bennett has asked for more time to find a replacement for Smith, who aggravated a shoulder problem whilst training with Melbourne.
“Cameron suffered deep bruising to his shoulder during a contact session earlier this week,” said Storm Football Manager Frank Ponissi.
“He aggravated that same injury during training today, therefore unfortunately ruling him out of the upcoming All Stars match.
“The injury is likely to prevent Cameron from playing in the trials, however we don’t anticipate any long-term issues that will prevent him from starting the season.”
St George utility Nathan Fien has been called up for the clash against the Indigenous All Stars at Gold Coast’s Skilled Stadium as a replacement for team mate Ben Hornby, who is battling a thigh strain.
The NRL All Stars squad commence training for the encounter on Sunday.
