Smith seeking positive response from Wolves at Dewsbury

Warrington coach Tony Smith wants a positive response from his team to last week’s Super League defeat to Hull.

The Wolves travel to Dewsbury on Friday evening for a Challenge Cup sixth round tie, and Smith is expecting a tough test from the Championship outfit.

“We’re looking for a response, and a good performance,” he said.

“But they’re a good team, a very good team. They’ve been battling in that top four of the Championship, and that’s a very competitive competition.

“They’re not a team we’re going to take for granted. We’ve done plenty of homework on them, and we’ve looked at them real hard in order to prepare ourselves.”

Smith is also aware that Dewsbury’s stadium presents some challenges of its own.

“It’s a tricky area to play, that part of the Pennines,” he said.

“They’ve got a small pitch, it’s narrow, short in length, sloped, there’s wind.

“They’ve got all the attributes that the home club knows more than the visiting club.

“That’s all in their advantage. But we’re looking to overcome all those things, and get over there and do a really solid performance.”
