Sonny Bill Williams set to have knee surgery
Toronto’s superstar signing Sonny Bill Williams may need to have minor knee surgery.
The dual-code New Zealand international was an absentee from Toronto’s team that beat Huddersfield 18-0 in the Challenge Cup on Wednesday night.
McDermott said: “Sonny Bill has got a little bit of a sore knee at the moment.
“We might have a look at having that operated on.
“He might go have that checked out on Saturday. Fingers crossed, by all accounts it’s going to be a 10-day or two-week job at worst.”
The Wolfpack, who have lost six games out of six in Super League so far, claimed their first win of the year on Wednesday.
McDermott added: “I don’t think our front-rowers have done anything this year, and after last week’s game when I thought they were passive, the instruction became a bit more colourful but I thought they responded massively tonight.
“The weather affected both teams. Huddersfield are a good team and they’ve been in good form but it wasn’t a game to chase so after we scored a couple of tries it was a significant scoreline in this weather.
“While we win – and it’s a win we’ve been wanting in any competition since the start of the season – there’s not much of that we can use going forward because it was just so weather related.”
