Jamie Soward has poured scorn on English rugby league, stating that the competition is 10 years behind the NRL.

Soward recently retired after a short stint with the London Broncos.

The halfback also attacked the Championship, saying it was 20 years behind the NRL.

Soward told radio station Triple M: “The Super League – and we saw it in the Four Nations – is ten years behind the NRL, and the competition lower than the Super League is about 20 years behind.

“The Super League players just aren’t good enough, to be honest. I don’t know if they train hard enough.

“And you saw in Wayne Bennett’s pressers – a lot of them just aren’t good enough.

“They don’t play the consistent footy week in, week out against quality sides, which is what we do in the NRL.”

Soward said he didn’t enjoy his recent spell with the Broncos, compared with his time with the club in Super League in 2013.
