St Helens and Leigh stars receive suspensions following Challenge Cup clash; Joe Shorrocks learns punishment
St Helens and Leigh Leopards have both received suspensions following Saturday’s Challenge Cup semi-final clash at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Having been sent for 10 for a late and high shot on opposition half-back Ben Reynolds, Sione Mata’utia has received a two-match ban by the match review panel with a Grade C charge.
It means the 27-year-old will miss Super League fixtures against Leeds and Salford respectively.
Meanwhile, Papua New Guinea international and Leigh hooker Edwin Ipape has received a one-match ban for Grade B strikes.
He will miss Saturday’s televised match against Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium, who were knocked out of the Challenge Cup by Hull KR on Sunday.
Following his red card against the Robins, with Brad Schneider kicking the winning golden point drop-goal, Wigan utility forward Joe Shorrocks has received a one-match ban for a Grade C high tackle charge.
The 23-year-old was sent off by official Liam Moore less than a minute into the second half for a high shot on makeshift opposition full-back Mikey Lewis.
London Broncos forward Rob Butler has also been referred to tribunal for biting against Halifax Panthers in the 1895 Cup semi-final.
The capital side fell to a 10-6 home defeat to the Panthers, with Simon Grix’s side preparing to take on Batley Bulldogs in the final.
Adrian Lam’s Leigh will face Willie Peters’ Hull KR at Wembley Stadium later next month as part of a triple header, with St Helens and Leeds set to go head-to-head in the Women’s Challenge Cup.
