St Helens confirm Matty Costello departure
St Helens have confirmed utility back Matty Costello has left the club for pastures new.
The 22-year-old centre, winger or full-back made 26 first team appearances for Saints since making his first team debut in 2018.
Costello said: “Thank you to everyone involved at the Saints. To all the coaches that I’ve worked with through the academy and into the first team as well as all the lads I’ve played with.
“It really has been amazing. I have nothing but good memories here and whilst it will be hard leaving many of my best mates and the team I’ve grown up supporting, I’m excited and ready for a new challenge ahead.”
Had a great time at @Saints1890 and am thankful for the opportunities that I’ve had, the people I’ve met and the support I’ve received. Can’t wait to get going with the next chapter.. https://t.co/OUoJfMjrA4

St Helens coach Kristian Woolf said: “Matty leaves us after 9 years at the club. He progressed through our academy to go on and become a first-grade player.
“He leaves us on the back of two Super League Grand Final winners’ rings and I want to thank him for his professionalism. We wish him the best of luck in the rest of his career.”
