St Helens have beaten Dewsbury by 20 points in a hard-fought friendly at Langtree Park.

The game was moved from the kick-off time of 3pm to 6.30pm to give additonal time to clear the pitch and surrounding areas of snow.

Saints got a scare in the first half but roared back in the second 40 minutes to win the game.

The home team got off to a great start with Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook touching down after just five minutes.

But the Rams responding quickly, Dale Morton hitting back to put the visitors 6-4 in front.

In the 29th minute a lovely pass from Jordan Turner set up Mark Percival to score.

But Dewsbury went up another gear with a try tieing it up 10-10. The Championship club then hit the lead when a high ball was coughed up and Andy Kain scored.

The Rams took a 14-10 lead into the break.

In the second half Percival wasted little bagging his second try, scoring just a minute after the interval.

Jack Owens converted and Saints had their noses in front by two points.

A beautiful show and go from debutant Theo Fages extended Saints lead, Owen’s conversion taking them to 22-14.

Then it was McCarthy-Scarsbrook’s chance to get a double of his own with an awesome angled run.

Kyle Trout responded for Dewsbury with a try, making it 26-14.

Then Calvin Wellington hit back for St Helens, finishing off a nice move.

Right before full-time Lewis Charnock crossed for the final try to make it 38-18.
