Stone: We must focus on ourselves
Rick Stone says Huddersfield must not worry about results elsewhere as they bid to secure their place in the Super 8s this weekend.
The Giants host Leigh on Friday knowing victory would guarantee a top eight finish and Stone is keen for his players to focus solely on the job at hand.
“I think we’ve got to concentrate on what we need to do if we want to be in the top eight,” he told the club’s official website.
“We want to keep moving in the direction we are – there’s a bit of water under the bridge yet in the competition. The first port of call would be to get in the top 8 and then we can reassess after that.
“I think there’s still a bit of change to come by the time the normal competitions finish. Then there’s seven games left so that’s 14 competition points on offer by the time you get into the next stage, but we don’t want to look too far ahead.
“We haven’t had such good games against Leigh over the last twelve months, but they’re coming back to our place so hopefully we can improve. They’ve got Micky Higham playing his 500th game this week so I’m sure they’re going to be ready to play.
“Leigh might be a little bit more dangerous I suppose – they haven’t got too much to lose in this game so maybe their attitude offensively might be slightly different.
“There’s always plenty to play for and for us every week there seems to be a little bit more to play for, so this game’s no different.
“Our form in the last couple of months has been consistent and I think if we can show some of that consistency throughout the eighty minutes I’m sure we’ll be competitive.”
