Sunday Social: Touching moment for Oliver Gildart ahead of debut & 300 for Liam Farrell
Touching moment for Oliver Gildart
Oliver Gildart made his NRL debut in the opening weekend for Wests Tigers.
The club surprised the England international, with his parents flying over ahead of his big day. Shared on Gildart’s Instagram, the moment was filmed in what looked to be a presentation ahead of their clash with Melbourne Storm.
He played a big part in the club’s first try of the season, assisting Ken Maumalo in the corner.

300 games for Liam Farrell
England international Liam Farrell made his 300th Wigan appearance against Catalans over the weekend.
It wasn’t the result he would have wished for, with Matt Peet’s side falling to a 28-0 defeat in Perpignan on Saturday.
Ahead of the game, Peet was full of praise for his back-rower. He said: “I’ve spent a lot of time on the academy here and I point to Liam as the role model to junior players.
“The epitome of what we want the club to be about. An emblem of hard work pays off.”

Debut for Jayden Hatton
Former Leigh and Widnes winger Jayden Hatton made his Swinton debut in their friendly against Keighley.
Hatton came through the academy ranks at Widnes, and enjoyed a highly successful 2021 campaign. He then left the club to pursue a full-time opportunity at Leigh.
However, he left the club having not played a game for them, as other commitments meant he had to leave. He was announced by Swinton just 24-hours before the friendly.
Congratulations and good luck to @HattonJayden on signing for @Swinton_Lions

Celebration of the year
We already have the winner for the celebration of the year.
Barrow’s Jarrod Sammut scored a fine individual try in the club’s Challenge Cup tie with Workington at the Matt Johnson Prestige Stadium.
His try celebration was even better, and will be hard to beat for the celebration of the year.
🙌 The try is brilliant.
🕺 The celebration is 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫!👏 @Jarrod_Sammut take a bow…

Super League table
St Helens are once again the team to beat in 2022. The champions lead the way and remain the only side undefeated so far this season.
Newcomers Toulouse still search for their first win of the campaign, falling 18-6 to Wakefield in round five.

Joe Cator heartbreak
Everyone at Love Rugby League would like to send their best wishes to Hull’s Joe Cator, pictured below emotionally leaving the field against Leeds on Thursday.
The forward suffered a devastating reoccurrence of a ruptured Achilles, minutes into his return from the same injury.
An absolutely heartbreaking photo 💔
All the best @JoeCator, rugby league is behind you. pic.twitter.com/bvz4U1ya5e
