Team news: Super League squads decimated by injuries for Round 24
Super League squads are decimated by injury and suspension ahead of Round 24 of fixtures.
There are no Sunday games this week ahead of next week’s double header fixtures, which couldn’t look any less timely given the injury woes being suffered.
Huddersfield started the weekend by boosting their bid for a top two spot with a 36-10 win over Castleford.
Hull FC v Wakefield | Friday | 8pm | Sky Sports Action
The state of player availability in Super League at this stage of the season is perhaps best summed up by two parts of Hull FC’s 21-man squad.
Number seven Luke Gale is first on their list, while number 41 Kye Armstrong is in line for a potential debut.
Jack Walker and Darnell McIntosh are out for the season through injury, while Jake Connor and Kane Evans will serve suspensions handed down to them following the heavy defeat to St Helens.
Wakefield are without Hull loanee Jamie Shaul, who is ineligible to face his parent club.
Max Jowitt returns from a hamstring injury, and Rob Butler and Kyle Evans are recalled.
A win for Trinity could all but seal their Super League survival.
Hull FC 21-man squad: Gale, Sao, Houghton, Satae, Ma’u, Lane, Lovodua, Fash, McNamara, Johnstone, Wynne, Vulikijapani, Taylor, Barron, Balmforth, Litten, Laidlaw, Longstaff, Martin, Smith, Armstrong
Wakefield 21-man squad: Jowitt, Miller, Lino, Battye, Hood, Arona, Ashurst, Crowther, Whitbread, Gaskell, Kershaw, Croft, Walker, Aydin, Bowes, Murphy, Hall, Butler, Fifita, Evans, Bowden
Leeds v Warrington | Friday | 8pm
Warrington have got three potential debutants in their squad to face Leeds.
Wales international Luke Thomas, 19, and 18-year-olds Adam Holroyd (back-row) and Leon Hayes (half-back) could feature at Headingley.
Stefan Ratchford is missing due to concussion protocols, with Riley Dean returning.
Tom Mikaele, Matty Nicholson and Connor Wrench are all sidelined with injuries suffered against Toulouse.
While the Wolves are relatively pressure-free, Leeds will be looking for a win to consolidate their play-off spot.
Suspended trio Matt Prior, Aidan Sezer and Rhyse Martin return, while James Bentley is also back from injury.
Sezer could play alongside Blake Austin and Richie Myler for only the second time.
Leeds 21-man squad: Sutcliffe, Handley, Austin, Sezer, Oledzki, Prior, Bentley, Martin, Tetevano, Dwyer, Miler, Smith, Gannon, Walkers, O’Connor, Johnson, Mustapha, Tindall, Sinfield, Hardaker.
Warrington 21-man squad: Amor, Ashton, Bullock, D Clark, J Clark, Currie, Dean, Dufty, Harrison, Hayes, Holroyd, Holmes, Mata’utia, Minikin, Mulhern, Thewlis, Thomas, Walker, Wardle, Whitehead, Williams.
St Helens v Hull KR | Friday | 8pm
Saints welcome Hull KR to the Totally Wicked Stadium five days after routing their city rivals Hull 60-6.
Jack Welsby is likely to return to the team, but Sione Mata’utia is missing with a foot injury.
Hull KR are very much down to the bare bones and can only name a 19-man squad.
They lost Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Greg Richards for the rest of the season in last week’s loss to Leeds.
Ethan Ryan and Matt Parcell are both banned, but Albert Vete returns.
St Helens 21-man squad: Welsby, Makinson, Hopoate, Lomax, Walmsley, Roby, Lees, Batchelor, Lussick, McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Paasi, Wingfield, Bell, Simm, Davies, Hurrell, Norman, Royle, Bennison, Baxter, Pemberton.
Hull KR 19-man squad: Coote, Hall, Vete, King, Linnett, Storton, Litten, Minchella, Keinhorst, Lewis, Milnes, Maher, Wood, Halton, Tate, Laulu-Togaga’e, Moore, Fishwick, Barley.
Wigan v Toulouse | Friday | 8pm
It’s almost do or die for Toulouse against a Wigan side who must win to keep the battle for top spot going for at least another week.
Toulouse’s hopes have been hindered by a lengthy ban for half-back Corey Norman.
There will be a bucket collection at the match to help for the search for Bryn Hargreaves, who has gone missing in America.
Wigan 21-man squad: French, Bibby, Marshall, Cust, Singleton, Mago, Isa, Farrell, Bateman, Smithies, Ellis, Smith, Partington, Byrne, Pearce-Paul, Shorrocks, Field, Miski, Halsall, McDonnell, O’Neill.
Toulouse 21-man squad: Jussaume, Marcon, Albert, Navarrete, Hansen, Marion, Pelissier, Puech, Bretherton, Cunningham, Bergal, Hankinson, Sangare, Armitage, Russell, Pezet, Peats, Belmas, Stefani, Gigot, Alvaro.
Catalans v Salford | Saturday | 6pm
Catalans are boosted by the returns of Ben Garcia, Mickael Goudemand, Fouad Yaha and Gil Dudson.
Salford will be looking to keep up their push for the play-offs and in a rarity in Super League these days, are able to name numbers 1-9 in their squad.
Unfortunately, due to no French broadcast deal in place it isn’t possible to watch this game live on TV.
You can tune in to Jarrow Vikings against Edinburgh Eagles in the North East Premier Division on the Our League app at 2pm.
Catalans 21-man squad: Mourgue, Davies, Langi, Whare, Yaha, Drinkwater, Dudson, McIlorum, Garcia, Da Costa, Seguier, Goudemand, Laguerre, May, Le Cam, Napa, Cozza, Rouge, Franco, Chan, Tomkins.
