Super League stars support Help for Heroes
Some of Rugby League’s biggest names put club loyalties aside on a visit to the Help for Heroes Phoenix House Recovery Centre in Catterick ahead of this weekend’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup fourth round ties.
Adrian Morley, the captain of Cup holders Warrington Wolves, Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott, Hep Cahill of Widnes Vikings, Hull FC’s Joe Arundel, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats full-back Richard Mathers, Jason Chan of Huddersfield Giants and Castleford Tiger Jake Webster all took time out to look around the centre which provides vital support to those who have suffered life-changing injuries or become sick whilst serving their country.
They also saw the new buildings (which will fully open in September) which their fundraising is supporting. Help for Heroes (H4H) is Tetley’s official charity partner as part of their title sponsorship of the Tetley’s Challenge Cup and as Official Beer of Super League.
Throughout this season’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup competition, Tetley’s will work with both the clubs and Help for Heroes to raise funds. As part of this fundraising effort, every round will have a designated Help for Heroes match, with bucket collections, merchandise sales and Man of the Match awards presentations by Help for Heroes.
Saturday’s all-Super League televised (BBC1, 2.30) clash between Hull Kingston Rovers and St Helens is the first of these designated matches.
RFL Chief Operating Office Ralph Rimmer said: “Rugby League is delighted to have the opportunity to work with Tetley’s to raise awareness of the magnificent work that Help For Heroes undertakes.
“As the sport’s oldest and most prestigious competition, I’m sure the Tetley’s Challenge Cup will play a successful part in delivering Help for Heroes messages to our fans.”
Carlsberg UK Communications Director Bruce Ray said: “Help for Heroes is one of the UK’s most inspiring fundraising causes. The work they do is close to the hearts of many Tetley’s customers, and we are delighted to enable them to show their support for the charity when they shop for beer.
“To come here and see this facility first-hand was a brilliant experience and very inspiring and makes you realise the amazing work done by H4H.”
Mo Usman, Phoenix House Recovery Centre Manager, said: “We’re delighted Tetley’s has chosen H4H as its charity partner for a second year and we’re really thrilled to see the work they are doing with the Rugby League to raise much-needed funds for our wounded.
“The support we offer serving personnel, veterans and their families is vital for their recovery and well-being. It’s thanks to organisations like Tetley’s and the fantastic generosity of the public that we’re able to make sure they get the support they deserve.”
Phoenix House Recovery Centre in Catterick is one of four Recovery Centres built and managed by H4H – the others are in Tidworth, Colchester and Plymouth. The Centres provide accommodation, training and recovery facilities as well as delivering life-skills courses and activities to get the wounded, sick and injured, serving and veterans, back out doing what they enjoy the most.
