Super League target Ben Murdoch-Masila granted release by NRL club
Ben Murdoch-Masila has been granted a release from NRL side New Zealand Warriors ahead of the 2023 campaign.
The 31-year-old was off-contract at the end of next season, the third and final year of his deal since returning to the NRL from Warrington.
Murdoch-Masila had been linked with a move to Catalans Dragons by L’Independant following the release of Cook Islands international Dylan Napa.
Reports in Australia from the Daily Telegraph have linked the Tonga international to a move to the Dragons – but not Catalans. He is expected to join St George Illawarra ahead of the 2023 NRL season.
Injuries have limited the forward to 27 of a possible 48 matches in the last two seasons. He made just 11 appearances in 2022.
He has also previously represented Wests Tigers and Penrith Panthers in the NRL.
Warriors release Ben Murdoch-Masila
“While we were keen for Ben to remain with us for the full term of his contract we weren’t in a position right now to offer a further contract beyond this,” said New Zealand Warriors CEO Cameron George.
“At the same time another club offered him a longer-term deal giving him the security he was looking for.
“We’ve loved having Ben and Roxy around our club and we really appreciate the contribution they’ve made. They go with our best wishes.”
