Swinton hunt pack quality
Swinton are looking to add some quality forwards to their line-up as they prepare for the 2013 Championship campaign.
Lions coach Steve McCormack currently has 11 players on the books including new signings Andy Ballard and Josh Ballard, with Chaz I’Anson, Martin Ainscough, Darren and Ritchie Hawkyard, Mark Smith, Kevin Penny, Alex Hurst, Chris Clarke and Sam Reay returning from last season.
McCormack said: “I’m delighted to re-sign the players we have done and now we need to look at the quality.
“Our back line is looking ok. Maybe there will be one or two more additions there but our priority is obviously making sure our forwards are up to scratch and that’s what we’re looking at.
“We weren’t far off last year but we were aware we fell down in a few areas – whether that was quality, composure or experience.
“The players we have re-signed were all very good for us.
“Darren Hawkyard was arguably one of best back rowers in the division and he’s only going to get better and better.
“Richie Hawkyard had a tremendous season at full-back and Mark Smith had one of his most consistent seasons for a number of years.
“It was important we got them all on board.”
