Swinton look to bounce back
Swinton Lions coach Steve McCormack hopes his side can bounce back after being on the wrong end of a 112-0 thumping at Warrington Wolves last week.
To their credit Swinton did not give in despite the one-sided score, and McCormack said: “This will be the catalyst for better things. It will make us, not break us.”
He added: “From the chairman right down to the supporters, everyone is pulling in the right direction and hopefully we can continue to do the same on the pitch.”
Oldham trio Marcus St Hilaire, John Gillam and Jason Boults all face fitness tests on Thursday before coach Tony Benson finalises his squad.
Benson said: “We always see ourselves having a chance, and we’ve trained pretty well over the last fortnight, but Swinton are strong all over the field.
“They’ve got a lot of players who can make something out of nothing. They’re strong in attack, they’ve got a big pack, elusive players on the edges and halves who drive them around well. We need to turn up and be ready.”
He added: “We know them reasonably well, and really it’ll come down to whether we can defend what they can throw at us. That’s the big question. Defence is going to be key.”
