Tom Holmes: Featherstone loan half-back to fellow Championship club
Sheffield Eagles have signed half-back Tom Holmes on an initial two-week loan deal from fellow Championship club Featherstone Rovers.
The 26-year-old will join the Eagles in search of game time. He will be in contention to make his debut for the Eagles in Sunday’s trip to Whitehaven.
Holmes has made almost 100 career appearances for Castleford Tigers, Huddersfield Giants and Featherstone Rovers.
Sheffield coach Mark Aston said: “I’m delighted to add a player of Tom’s quality to the squad.
“He will certainly add something positive to this group.”
Tom Holmes hopes Sheffield loan can benefit both parties
Holmes said: “It’s important for me to build as much game time as possible. It’s a very competitive environment at Featherstone and so I’m excited for the opportunity to showcase my abilities.
“A handful of clubs came in pretty quickly for me and when I heard that Sheffield were interested it was something that I wanted to get over the line pretty quickly.
“Going out on loan is a big thing for me and Sheffield ticked a lot of the boxes around where I want to be.
“It’s a club that looks like it’s going places.
“I want to be in a team that is pushing for play-offs. I want to be playing and performing and for me, there’s no better way than to be the best version of me in a team that is really competitive.
“And I want to look back and see that I have played a part in pushing Sheffield in the best way that I can. Hopefully I can help the club and they can help me.”
Holmes, who started his carer at hometown club Castleford in Super League, will wear the number 28 shirt for Sheffield during his loan spell.
