Sam Tomkins scored a try for the Barbarians on his rugby union debut as they were thrashed 60-11 by Australia at Twickenham.

Tomkins was considered a surprise inclusion to the Barbarians invitational side although the the England RL full back held his own in his first ever rugby union match.

The Wigan Warriors star, who played on the wing, scored a try in the final play of the game which proved to be the only try the Barbarians scored during the match.

Tomkins could have got on the score sheet in the first half had he received better service from his team mates, with the final pass missing from the Barbarians attack on many occasions.

With Australia running rampant in the second half, the Barbarians mustered up a final attack after the 80 minute mark, with the rugby league star finishing well in the corner.

Despite many rumours that Sam is to follow his brother Joel to the union code, Sam recently committed himself to Wigan by signing a new deal which includes a cause that prevents him from signing for a rugby union side for the next three years.
