Tony Smith: Hull KR coach insists he isn’t thinking about Leeds job
Hull KR coach Tony Smith insists he is not thinking about who will become the next Leeds coach and is at ease with what his future looks like.
Smith played down speculation linking him to return to the Rhinos as Richard Agar’s successor after Hull KR’s 24-18 win over Leigh in the sixth round of the Challenge Cup.
The 55-year-old Australian, who is out of contract at the end of the season, said his thoughts were with his good friend Agar who walked out on his role on Monday.
“It is your job to speculate not mine,” Smith said. “My job is to prepare my team and get them ready for every game.
“I don’t owe anybody or have to please my supporters by telling them what I am doing next year.
“I am quite at ease not knowing what my future is and I have said that all along.
Tony Smith: I haven’t discussed my future with anyone
“What is going at another club has nothing to do with us. I haven’t discussed my future with anyone and I am not going to discuss it publicly until I discuss it privately and that is usually with my boss at home.
“One of my good friends has just resigned from there (Leeds) and I feel for him. He put his heart and soul into it and it is a tough decision to come up with when you have been so involved
“That’s where my thoughts have been. As to who gets the next job, honestly I spend zero time thinking about it.”
Hull KR will host Lee Radford’s Castleford side in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup. The tie will be played on the weekend of April 8-10.
