Toulouse make history

Toulouse became the first French team to win silverware in the RFL system by defeated Sheffield to claim the Championship Shield over the weekend.

Mark Kheirallah scored two tries and four goals to help them to a 44-14 win over the Eagles and make up for the agony of missing out on The Qualifiers.

Despite finishing top of League 1 last season, Toulouse missed out on the trophy after losing to Rochdale in the promotion final.

They become the third winners of the Championship Shield, following on from Featherstone (2015) and Bradford (2016).

It marked a successful day for French rugby league on Saturday, as Catalans Dragons secured their Super League status for next season with victory over Leigh in the Million Pound Game.
