Toulouse swoop for former Wigan half-back
Toulouse have signed half-back Jake Shorrocks from Newcastle Thunder on a two-year deal.
Shorrocks, 27, came through the ranks at Wigan, making 28 first team appearances.
He also had spells on loan at Salford, Swinton and Workington, moving to Newcastle ahead of the 2021 season.
With Thunder reverting back to part-time status, there has been an exodus of players, including Shorrocks’ half-back partner Josh Woods, who has gone to Batley.
He said: “I can’t wait to start working with the club, I wanted to thank Sylvain, Cédric and the whole TO for giving me this opportunity and helping the club to go back to the Super League. I can’t wait to discover France and its culture but also to meet the supporters.”
The arrival of Shorrocks comes hot on the heels of the capture of Sitaleki Akauola from Salford.
They have also added Scotland international Callum Gahan from London Broncos.
Following their relegation from Super League, Toulouse have bid farewell to several players and will need to continue with recruitment to bolster their squad of the 2023 Championship season.
Toulouse president, Bernard Sarrazain, added: “Jake was a priority on the one hand because we had to fill vacant positions at the hinge and on the other hand thanks to his profile.
“He comes from the formation of Wigan, so it’s a safe bet. I can’t wait to see him evolve into Blue and White.”
