Veivers needs tougher Workington against Featherstone
Workington coach Phil Veivers is hoping for more focus from his team in their game against Featherstone Rovers this weekend.
Town welcome Fev to Cumbria on the back of three consecutive defeats, though they could be boosted by the return to action of Declan Hulme, Brett Carter and, possibly, Alex Szostak.
“We’ve been doing it tough for a few weeks, but that’s not to say we shouldn’t have got a result out of a couple of games we’ve played,” said Veivers.
“It just comes down to poor performance on our behalf.
“Fev are going pretty good. They are a young, enthusiastic team with a couple of old heads in there to give them that experience.
“They were tough last year and they’ve still got a lot of the same players plus Misi Taulapapa and Darrell Griffin, who were major signings.
“They caused us a few problems last year, so we just need to be focused on what we need to do and get it right.”
Meanwhile, Featherstone coach Jon Sharp was delighted with the display of his team last week, despite losing to Halifax 20-19 with the last kick of the game.
“There’s mixed emotions; we’re really pleased and proud of where we’re at and where we’re heading,” he said.
“We competed against a side who probably played the best they have all year. We battled hard and played some good stuff and ultimately could have won it but didn’t, but I’m not going to let a penalty under the posts in the 80th minute cloud my judgement on the performance.
“It’s never easy going up to Workington. Last year we had some big tussles with them.
“It’s a big game for us; we’ve got to bounce back from our last two games, which resulted in defeats. We need to win this one.”
