Veivers tight-lipped over referee
Salford coach Phil Veivers refused to comment about referee James Child following his side’s 40-20 defeat against Wigan at the weekend.
The Warriors were handed 13 penalties to the Reds’ five, and Child was subject to discontent from the home fans at both half and full time.
Speaking on local radio after the game, Veivers said the fans were entitled to their opinion and that he had his own but wasn’t allowed to talk about it.
He said: “There were a lot of penalties and I felt it was a bit inconsistent. We can play a bit when we have the ball but we were the manufacturers of our own downfall and got a bit sloppy.”
Salford were well in the game within the first 20 minutes, but quickfire tries from Josh Charnley and Sam Tomkins gave Wigan a cushion they were never to relinquish.
The Warriors opened up to a 36-8 lead at one point, before tries from Luke Patten and Jordan James added a hint of respectability to the scoreline.
