Wakefield dealt huge injury blow to Jorge Taufua
Wakefield have suffered a devastating injury blow to their newest recruit Jorge Taufua, who has suffered a season-ending injury.
The Samoa and Tonga international suffered a broken arm after Konrad Hurrell broke his tackle in Sunday’s 13-12 golden point defeat to St Helens.
It comes as a cruel blow to Taufua, who was playing just his second game for Trinity since arriving from the NRL.
Wakefield coach Willie Poching said: “He had a pretty bad break in his arm. He had an operation on Monday morning.
“With the situation we are in, unfortunately for Jorge that’s his season done. In the two games he played for us he showed more than his value to us.
“That’s one of the side stories in the importance for us staying up so that we are able to keep him with us next season. He’s really disappointed, he’s gutted that his season has finished that way.
“In his second game he was just starting to get used to Super League, especially against a side like St Helens. He said he loved the physicality of the game and how it was played. He just has to rest and recover now and be an important part for us on the sideline.”
Taufua made 164 appearances in the NRL for Manly Sea Eagles, scoring 88 tries. He joined Trinity on a deal until the end of next season.
Jorge Taufua on joining Wakefield
Speaking when his signing was announced earlier this month, Taufua said: “I’m thankful to Wakefield Trinity for the opportunity to come over and experience life in the Super League.
“I am eager to meet everyone in the squad and club and get to work with them. Another thing that I’m looking forward to is getting to know the community and culture when I arrive. All in all, I’m really excited at the opportunity and excited to start.”
