Walton: Fev ready for Broncos test
Jason Walton says Featherstone are gearing up for the most crucial 80 minutes of their 2017 campaign, ahead of Saturday’s Summer Bash battle against London Broncos.
Walton made a stunning return to action last weekend, scoring twice to help the Rovers sink Dewsbury Rams.
After spending almost six weeks on the sidelines, the former Super League centre insists he eager to secure a placing in Jon Sharp’s starting line-up and kick on.
“Saturday is going to be massive for us – London are looking good at the moment and we need to win,” said Walton.
“We are pushing hard to get a top-four spot sealed up and Saturday gives us a big chance to go four points clear of one or two of the teams chasing us in second.
“London, though, have really stepped up since we beat them at home. I don’t think they have lost once, in fact, since then.
“Our gameplan is pretty much set now, though, and the boys are feeling confident. If we play to our structures then it will be a case of the best team will win.”
Featherstone are yet to claim a victory at the Summer Bash, which was first launched in 2015.
The Rovers lost out to Leigh during the inaugural event and were defeated by rivals Halifax last term.
“I wasn’t here for the Bash games Featherstone lost, so the past doesn’t mean much to me,” added Walton.
“Plenty of the boys are looking to right the wrongs of years gone by, though, as we realise, this year, there is possibly even more at stake – with second spot in our hands.
“We are more than capable of getting the job done. London are a good team, but we have beat them once this year and we can beat them again.”
The Rovers’ Summer Bash clash gets underway on Saturday (4.45pm) at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road.
