Warrington Wolves: Thomas Mikaele loan speculation addressed by Daryl Powell
Warrington Wolves coach Daryl Powell has addressed the recent speculation linking former prop Thomas Mikaele with a potential return to the club.
Mikaele, 25, was one of the form front-rowers in Super League at the start of the season before returning to Australia for family reasons.
There has been recent speculation around Mikaele possibly returning to the Wolves on loan for the remainder of the season, something which Powell admits he has been talking about behind the scenes for a couple of months.
The deadline for signing players is on August 4, so the club would need to secure the move before next Friday if he was to return to the Halliwell Jones Stadium this season.
When asked about Mikaele, Powell said: “I don’t really know. It’s something I’ve been talking about behind the scenes for a few months.
“I don’t know where it’s at, it would be pretty good wouldn’t it?
“But I don’t know. I can’t give you any real information on that but we know Tom, he’s a quality player and he knows us, so it would be a perfect fit but whether it would happen or not, I couldn’t give you any more information on that.”
Daryl Powell provides Warrington Wolves recruitment update
Last week, Warrington announced the signing of versatile forward Jordan Crowther on loan from Wakefield Trinity for the rest of the season.
Asked if he was confident there’d be another signing through the door before the deadline, Powell said: “I wouldn’t have a clue and I don’t think you can be confident at the moment looking at what’s happening in the competition and overseas.
“I wouldn’t say I’m confident, but we’ve been looking since we lost those two boys (Mikaele and Josh McGuire) back to Australia.
“Jordan Crowther has come up, he’s fitted in pretty well straight away so we’ll wait and see, but I wouldn’t say I’m confident.”
The Wire had a week off last week due to the Challenge Cup semi-finals, but they are back in action against Wakefield on Sunday.
