Warriors look to mount late charge
Castleford have dominated the Betfred Super League this season but Wigan can make a late charge for a Grand Final place.
Holders Wigan Warriors can give their Betfred Super League Grand Final hopes a boost if they overcome Salford at the DW Stadium on Friday (Wigan 1/4, draw 25/1, Salford 3/1 – Betfred Super League match betting).
The Warriors are seventh in the Super 8s standings but they are just three points adrift of the top four and a win over the Red Devils would see them move up one place.
On Thursday, Daryl Powell’s Castleford Tigers will look to make history as they try to secure the League Leaders’ Shield (Castleford 6/5 – Betfred Super League Grand Final outright).
Powell’s men have dominated their rivals in the Super League so far this season and they can win their first ever league title in the club’s history, while a win would also guarantee them a home draw for the semi-finals.
Despite their momentum, the Tigers will not have it all their own way against local rivals Wakefield. Trinity nearly beat Cas in July and their 38-6 win over Leeds last week has given them the confidence they need.
The rest of the weekend’s fixtures will take place on Friday, with Hull looking to maintain their recent form against Huddersfield Giants.
Lee Radford’s men have won their last four games and they are already planning ahead for the Challenge Cup final later this month. Hull are just one point behind Leeds in the Super 8s table and Leeds will need a good result to ease the pressure on themselves.
The Rhinos face St Helens at Headingley in the final game before their famous South Stand is demolished.
