“We need to start winning or we’ll be out of a job”

Hull KR prop Mitch Garbutt is one of six former Leeds players who will return to their former club on Friday seeking a much needed win.

Garbutt, 30, left the Rhinos with a year remaining on his contract at the end of last season.

Super League’s leading ever try scorer Danny McGuire, centre Jimmy Keinhorst and forwards Robbie Mulhern and Weller Hauraki are also former Leeds player.

Then there’s Matt Parcell, the hooker that was swapped with Shaun Lunt recently.

A derby win over Hull FC lifted Rovers off the bottom, though a defeat to Wigan last week leaves them level on points with basement boys London.

Garbutt said: “We need to start winning games, otherwise we’ll be out of a job.

“Personally I think relegation is not the right thing but that’s an argument for another day.

“I couldn’t imagine having to go home to your missus and telling her that I don’t have a job, how are we going to pay the mortgage?”

Hull KR were relegated in 2016 after a heartbreaking golden point Million Pound Game defeat to Salford.

There are only a sprinkling of players still at the club from that season, including Mulhern, Ryan Shaw and George Lawler.

With eight games to go, Hull KR and London are on 14 points, Huddersfield and Leeds have 16 points and Salford and Wakefield have 18 points.
