(-16) Huddersfield v Castleford (+16)
The Giants sit top of the tree in Super League after round six, but their main challenge this season will be sustaining a title push for the full year. This time last year, it was Castleford hovering in the top few places, but a difficult start to the season for a number of reasons sees them winless since round one. The Tigers showed glimpses against Leeds, but were thumped by London last weekend, and it is hard to see how they’ll turn it around to win this one. The return of Ian Millward is likely to galvanise the team, however, and the SKY cameras and night atmosphere could create a close one.
Prediction: Huddersfield by 10
Match Betting
(+14) Salford v Leeds (-14)
Hopes of a fourth consecutive victory for Salford were dashed at Catalan last week, but they have won their last two home games at the Salford City Stadium. Leeds are in town this weekend, and they come in fine form, having won their last three league games following on from their World Club Challenge triumph. The Rhinos were strong against Warrington last week, and will fancy their chances of another win against the Reds.
Prediction: Leeds by 14
Match Betting
(+8) Bradford v St Helens (-8)
Despite their recent stumble, St Helens are still favourites for this one, even though Bradford have picked up some form of late. They put in a good fight against Warrington a fortnight ago, before their superb second half showing in winning at Hull KR. They’re no strangers to the SKY TV cameras, appearing for the fourth consecutive week, but they will come up against a St Helens team licking their wounds following defeats against Catalan, Huddersfield and Hull.
Prediction: St Helens by 4
Match Betting
(-14) Catalan v Hull KR (+14)
Hull KR haven’t quite settled in to their season yet, throwing away a commanding lead against Bradford last week, having battered Widnes the week before. They showed glimpses in defeats at Leeds and Warrington, and drew with St Helens, but they are a difficult team to predict at the moment. Catalan march on, however, and their imperious home form will be a catalyst to what could well be a title challenge in 2012.
Prediction: Catalan by 16
Match Betting
(-28) Warrington v Wakefield (+28)
Warrington are ruthless at home, and it’s unlikely they’ll hold back against Wakefield, following last weekend’s disappointment at Leeds. The Wildcats are winless since their opening day win at Widnes, and it could be a long day at the office for Richard Agar’s men.
Prediction: Warrington by 34
Match Betting
(-24) Wigan v London (+24)
Shaun Wane upset the odds last week, picking a weakened team as 1/200 Wigan were beaten by Widnes. They’re unlikely to make the same mistake again this week when London come to the DW Stadium, with the likes of Tomkins, Richards and Leuluai all set to return. The Broncos, buoyed by their win over Castleford last week, aren’t renowned for being good on the road, but they have the players to cause Wigan a couple of problems, especially if they start well.
Prediction: Wigan by 30
Match Betting
(-24) Hull v Widnes (+24)
Although they beat Wigan last week, the bookies don’t have much faith in Widnes repeating the feat at Hull. The Airlie Birds are on a high themselves after winning away at St Helens, and are likely to prove too strong for the basement boys, who will be looking to follow up from their first Super League win since September 2005.
Prediction: Hull by 12
