Whitehaven add Castleford youngster on loan
Whitehaven have announced the signing of Castleford hooker Cain Robb on a month-long loan deal.
The 19-year-old has made five appearances for the Tigers in the Super League. This includes a man of the match performance on his debut against Salford last year.
Robb, who has made three appearances from the bench this year, will provide some much needed cover for Whitehaven. Recently, they have lost Alex Bishop, James Newton and Callum Phillips due to long term injuries.
Haven director Ashley Kilpatrick said of Robb: “It’s great news that we’ve been able to add Cain to the squad for the next month on loan from Castleford.
“Following a handful of Super League games for the Tigers in 2021 and at the start of this season, he is highly thought of by the club. Cain’s played for Yorkshire and England at youth level so again at a high standard of rugby.
“We would like to thank Lee Radford & Danny Wilson from Castleford and Dave Peet for making the loan move happen to help us out with having no recognised hookers available at the moment.”
Whitehaven also add Workington utility
This news comes two days after Whitehaven announced the signing of utility player Perry Singleton from Cumbrian rivals Workington.
He has also signed for a month.
This deal also saw Whitehaven forward Glenn Riley head to Workington for a month also.
Kilpatrick added on Singleton: “I’ve always rated Perry as a player, from watching him play for Cumbria against Yorkshire & Lancashire a couple of years ago and more so since he made the step up to the pro game.
“Perry has always been one of the names I looked for on Town’s team sheet.”
Whitehaven continue their Championship on Sunday when they travel to Widnes.
