Whitehaven announce squad numbers for 2022
Whitehaven are the latest club to confirm their squad numbers for the 2022 Championship season.
The club are heading into their first season under the stewardship of Jonty Gorley. He replaced Gary Charlton in the role, just after he led Whitehaven to the playoffs.
There have been a couple of changes in the squad. Some players have moved on, whilst others have decided to retire from the game.
The first change sees new signing Geronimo Doyle replace Gregg McNally in the number one shirt. Doyle signed from recently relegated Swinton, while McNally has signed for Rochdale.
There is also a new face at number two. Dave Eccleston, who signed from North Wales, replaces Lachlan Walmsley, who has signed for Halifax.
Will Evans also takes the number four shirt from Jesse Joe Parker, who announced his retirement from the game. he joins from Australian side Burleigh.
The Cumbrian side also potentially have a new-look front row for 2022 following the retirements of Marc Shackley and Kris Coward. New signing from Newcastle Liam McAvoy will wear the eight shirt, while Tom Walker takes 10.
Their second recruit from Newcastle Kieran Hudson will wear 21. He replaces Glenn Riley, who drops to 30.
Elsewhere, Jake Moore, who has signed from Workington, will wear 19. He replaces Ellis Gillam, who has moved across Cumbria to Barrow.
Alex Bishop will also wear 23, replacing Jason Mossop, who has signed for Hunslet.
Finally, Josh Martin has taken the 22 shirt from Brett Carter, who has not been given a number.
