Whitehaven ready for Oldham’s KR conquerers
Whitehaven coach James Coyle is hoping that his team can build on a good performance in their 16-12 loss to London Broncos last week.
Haven led for much of the game, and Coyle felt that with a little more energy they could have hung on for a win.
“We probably should have got a little bit more out of it than we did,” he said.
“We led for most of the game and had it by the scruff of the neck at one point but we just lacked a bit of energy and intensity in the second half.
“Oldham are one of the form teams at the minute. In their last three games they’ve beaten Batley, Sheffield and Hull KR. Everyone says you’re only as good as your last game and that was a win against a Super League team!
“They’re going to be tough to beat and we’re probably getting them at a bad time.”
The Chapelhow twins and Ed Chamberlain are available for Haven.
Oldham coach Scott Naylor is hoping that his team can build on their massive upset last week, when they knocked Hull KR out of the Challenge Cup with a 36-22 win.
“It was a fantastic day,” he said.
“Those days don’t come around often enough, unfortunately, but when they do you’ve got to make the most of them and enjoy them. Then you’ve got to get on with the normal season after that.
“I think Whitehaven have been a little bit like us. They’ve come up with a few wins that people probably didn’t expect them to.
“They are a very hard team to beat at home, always have been. We’re expecting a tough game.
“We’ve played really well in our last three games and for us it’s about trying to maintain that level. If we can maintain that level, we’ll be in with a chance.”
