Whitehead hails flying Dragon Escare
Catalan Dragons back rower Elliott Whitehead has praised his team-mate Morgan Escare.
The French full-back has scored 27 tries this season, an impressive tally, and Whitehead is hoping for more from the youngster in the play-offs.
“It’s great to see Morgan going in for the tries, he’s a real talent,” said Whitehead.
“It’s frightening to think he is only 22-years-old and still improving. Every time one of us makes a break he is always there on your shoulder supporting you.
“I haven’t done too bad myself when it comes to scoring. I seem to be in the right place at the right time.
“We all believe in each other at Catalans and we know we can make something special happen in 2014. First stop Leeds on Saturday.”
Whitehead is also hoping that the Dragons’ recent form can be taken into the play-offs, where they will meet Leeds at Headingley first up.
“We’ll take a lot of confidence out of beating Castleford and carry this over to Headingley for Saturday,” the Englishman added.
“They’re a quality side and have got some really experienced players in their squad. It’s a big game for both of us but I reckon we can get the job done.
“We’ll be keeping an eye on their back five to stop them going forward and Jamie Peacock just doesn’t know when to stop. It’s going to be a tough day at the office but we’re capable of handling this.
“Our away form is something that the media like to bring up. Travelling is part of the job. We can’t use it as an excuse. Other teams have to visit us so it’s something we just get used to.
“Only three teams have beat us in Perpignan this season so we need to take this type of form on the road.”
