Widnes launch crowdfunding campaign to support Kato Ottio’s family

Widnes have launched a crowdfunding campaign to remember Kato Ottio and support his family.

Ottio, 23, was due to arrive with the Vikings this week but tragically passed away in his native Papua New Guinea.

Also, the Vikings will be holding bucket collections at their pre-season friendly against Whitehaven on Friday night, while also freezing ticket prices at the current advance discounted rate to encourage fans to give generously to the collection.

The club said: “Kato’s life will be celebrated at this game with a minute’s silence, the first of a series of tributes that we are planning for our teammate.

“As a club, Widnes Vikings have committed to making a private donation to Kato’s family to support them at this difficult time.

“Widnes Vikings would like to thank everyone who supports these efforts, and to again offer our sincere condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues.
