Bevan French is set to make his first appearance of the season

Wigan full-back Bevan French has returned to the UK following COVID delays.

The former NRL utility has posted on social media confirming his return to the country. He has shared a picture alongside back-rower and team-mate Willie Isa at Robin Park Leisure Centre.

French was due to land back in the UK two weeks ago.

However, the full-back had been delayed in Australia after testing positive for Covid-19.

French had returned to Australia last year after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in June. He has undergone his rehabilitation Down Under, whilst also looking after his mother, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

Matt Peet has say on Bevan French return

Head coach Matt Peet has spoken for the first time since French’s return. The 26-year-old has not been included in Wigan’s squad to face Huddersfield this Thursday, and Peet says he won’t be rushing his star-man back.

Speaking during his pre-match conference, Peet said: “We’ve done a little bit of assessments on him physically. But with the fact he’s had almost two days’ travel, it’s more about getting him back settled in the group. As he catches up on sleep, we’ll intensify his practise.

“First and foremost, Bevan is a friend. He’s a very popular member of the squad and the club. All the staff throughout the club are pleased to see him. He’s a mate, to go through what he’s been through, we want to look after him.

“We’re glad he’s here so we can take care of him in a way.

“There will be no rush. It’ll be about getting him ready and getting him a bit fitter.

“I think we all know as well, a rock-solid 100% Bevan French gets in the team. That’s exciting. Those are the difficult decisions I want to make.”
