Women’s Challenge Cup: Featherstone to face Super League leaders plus round-up
The Women’s Challenge Cup second round draw has been made and it includes a number of interesting ties.
None more so than the highly-anticipated clash between Featherstone Rovers and their local rivals Castleford Tigers. The two clubs have an intense rivalry and their encounters are often incredibly physical ones.
This is one of two all-Super League clashes with the other one seeing York City Knights host the defending champions Leeds Rhinos.
York are currently bottom of the Women’s Super League table however, last season the team reached the Challenge Cup semi-final and will no doubt put up a good fight.
Meanwhile, Super League’s dark horses Bradford Bulls will face a tricky away clash with the RAF Ladies.
The Armed Forces side were victorious in the first round following a 28-18 win over Championship leaders Leigh Miners Rangers.
Another Armed Forces outfit, the British Army, is also set to face Super League opposition when they take on the 2018 league champions Wigan Warriors.
One team who clearly stood out in the first round was the newly created Warrington Wolves women’s team. An 80-12 thrashing of Wigan St. Patricks will no doubt give them a lot of confidence ahead of an all-Championship clash with Barrow in round two.
Elsewhere, unbeaten St. Helens will travel to Stanningley, Wakefield Trinity will host the Widnes Vikings and finally, Keighley Albion will welcome Halifax in an all-League One affair.
