Woods looking to end losing streak

York City Knights coach Dave Woods could name an unchanged team as he looks to end the Knights’ recent losing streak.

Their latest defeat came in a 44-24 reverse at Featherstone last week, but Woods was encouraged by his side’s performance in the first 40 minutes.

Woods said: “We need the second half of our Leigh game combined with the first half of our game against Featherstone. If we can magically put those together then we’ll be all right.”

He added: “We just need to keep doing what we’re doing. Hopefully it’ll come together and our rewards will come.”

On Widnes Vikings, Woods said: “They’re a quality team, even if they’ve probably been disappointed with some of their results.

“We need to get into them early, put them under some pressure and see how things go.”

Widnes’ 16-year-old full-back Jack Owens will hope to keep his place after impressing against Barrow a fortnight ago.

Coach Denis Betts will also hope to have available dual-registered trio Logan Tomkins, Joe Mellor and Dom Crosby, although that will depend on Wigan boss Michael Maguire’s assessment of the Warriors’ squad.
