Morgan Smith over the moon to join his hometown club
Featherstone have signed half-back Morgan Smith from Championship rivals York for the 2022 campaign.
The 23-year-old playmaker linked up with York ahead of last season but didn’t play a competitive game for the club. He suffered a season-ending injury in a training accident back in February.
Smith, the grandson of Featherstone legend Peter, is delighted to be joining his hometown club.
On his move to Featherstone, Smith said: “I didn’t expect it after being out for the year. I was at York and got injured during pre-season with my ACL. I was just going to go around again there and I was a bit surprised when Featherstone got in touch.
“They are a top, top Championship club and my hometown club as well. I always thought in the back of my mind that I would love to play for Fev. I didn’t think it would come as quick as this but I am happy to be here.
“It is a massive club and, for me, it is something I’ve wanted to do. I want to test myself and play in the big games. It is obviously a club that is going places. To fall just short in the Million Pound Game was a shame but I’m sure we’ll be back there next year.
“I played here in the Middle 8s for Warrington and when you are playing against Featherstone they do get on the back of you but hopefully they can support me a bit more next year!”
Smith came through the ranks at Super League side Warrington, making 26 first team appearances for the Wolves. He moved to London Broncos in 2019, playing 19 games prior to his move to York.
Brandon Pickersgill to join Morgan Smith at Featherstone
Featherstone have signed full-back Brandon Pickersgill from Championship rivals Bradford.
Pickersgill, 24, came through the Bulls’ academy after joining his hometown club at the age of 16.
He said: “I’m really excited to be joining a great club, I can’t wait to get started and to contribute towards us having a top season next year.”
